I wish that I had never loved anyone as I love you
And I want so very much to reveal to you my frailty
The part of you I love includes the part of you I don't
And strangely enough this only seems to have
"Returned me to myself" as they say and so much so
I have evencome to understand you have yet to understand
The part of me that understabds you

2

I have at times seduced you with the emptiness of the word
The ghostly precession haunting us these 5000 years
Never an end to their unfolding
Generation after generation
Alighting on the tips of our pens
To wait for some new will on which to feed

3

But actually these words are always arriving before us
Returning each time as pristine as ever
Waiting for us to lead them on

4

"I called out to him
And he answered:'Yeh, what's up?'
'Nothing,' I said. 'I only wanted to know if you were there.'
He is not often there you know
Me neither for that matter
But we have our rare moments when we both are
Moments we gingerly call 'love'"

5

Have words invented us?
And does this point to other things as well--
"The ten thousand things" as they called?
Sometimes I praise them by letting the sleep I so worship
Intercede for my deficiency of sympathy

6

And of course there are those words
That have never waited for any situation
To insinuate themselves into
Nor can we ever be sure if they are even waiting
Waiting like me like this
To force them into the genesis of
A poem

7

And these poems I discover
Are always changing with the light
like the eye of a cat

8

And these cats
Are always scurrying off
Although sometimes they will approach you
When they feel like meandering over
